We are in a constant time of war in our lives. The war is not fought with weapons and will never appear in your kids history books someday. The war might not ever even be noticed by some but slowly consumes them over time. This might sound absolutely insane and unreal, right? No.
We live this everyday, some fight more than others and some find ways to win the battle. I am being annoyingly vague so here is the battle I am talking about: The Battle of Busy. Busy... ? Yeah, this whole idea of being busy is not good. Anywhere from your company being busy or your Saturday being busy, is simply bad.
The reason: people mistake being busy with being productive.
Here is a story that proves this reasoning: I went to work for 9 hours one day and did not leave my seat. I left the office feeling like a boss and thought I got so much done. The next day I only worked for only 6 hours due to having pilates at night, I felt terrible and behind. I then proceeded to get back home at night and open up my computer. I was looking through the work that I did in 9 hours vs 6 hours and realized that I got more done in lesser time. Why (by the way, this is not just a one-time phenomena)? I had to pick and choose the most important activities to work on that would drive the highest value.
🔥 Tip: think of your work like shopping. When you shop you typically have a budget or a spend amount in mind, that means you have to get the biggest bang for your buck. Now for working, understand how much time you have that day and do activities that give you and your company the most value in that time. That is textbook productivity.
Notice that I have Part 1 listed in the title. Part 2 will focus on ways to win the battle on being busy as well as a rant about the current work day structure.
